All signs point to a ‘growing appetite’ for digital twins: report

  • The implementation of digital twin technology is expected to increase by 36%, on average, over the next five years across major industries, according to a recent report by Capgemini Research Institute. The in-house think tank of the Paris-based IT services and consulting company researches the impact of digital technologies.

  • About 60% of organizations surveyed say that improving sustainability efforts is a key driver of their digital twin investments. In a separate sample, 34% of organizations surveyed report they have already implemented the technology at scale to understand and anticipate their emissions and energy consumption.

  • Capgemini gathered information from 1,000 organizations across sectors including consumer products, energy and utilities, and life sciences. Eighty percent of surveyed organizations report they have an ongoing digital twin program, and the rest say they plan to start one. Capgemini also conducted 14 in-depth interviews with industry experts, academics, and other stakeholders on their use of digital twins.
