NYC DOT encourages contactless parking payments
In an effort to reduce people spreading germs by touching parking meters, the city of New York is encouraging all residents and visitors to pay for parking using an app.
The ParkMobile app has been made available alongside the city’s current ParkNYC app
In an effort to reduce people spreading germs by touching city parking meters during the Covid-19 outbreak, the New York Department of Transportation (DOT) is encouraging all residents and visitors to pay for parking using an app.
The contactless Pay-By-Cell option protects the safety of both DOT’s workforce and the public by reducing physical interactions and discouraging cash payments at the city’s 14,000 meters.
Additional app
To help increase mobile parking app usage and adoption, the city is adding the availability of the ParkMobile app, in addition to the city’s current ParkNYC app.
ParkNYC: available for free download in the Apple Store or Google Play, it allows account holders to pay for parking at any metered parking space on a new pay-as-you-go basis with no additional fees after loading an initial $25 wallet balance. The app was used for more than 22 million parking transactions last year.
